Pet & Genus Insight - AION 2 Guide

Pet & Genus Insight - AION 2 Guide

Master Pet and Genus Insight progression in AION 2 with the best farming order, stat rolls, and Soul Crystal priorities.

Pet & Genus Insight Guide
AION 2

Last Update: October 14, 2026

Introduction

Pets in AION 2 look like a collection feature at first, but that is only half the story. Every regular Pet you unlock adds permanent Owned Effects, every Insight level improves those bonuses, and all of that progress feeds into Genus Insight - a separate system with some of the strongest long-term stat rolls available in Global Season 1.

The trap is that both systems consume different resources and reward you in different ways. Players who spend everything on one rare Pet or start locking Genus rolls too early can burn a huge amount of time, Kina, and Soul Crystals for very little return.

The simple rule: unlock many easy Pets first, max the ones with good spawn density, level every Genus board toward 10, and only start serious stat locking once the best roll chances are available.
AION 2 Pet and Genus Insight overview

Two Systems, One Progression Loop

Pet InsightGenus InsightPermanent Stats

Pet Insight belongs to individual Pets and uses that Pet's Souls. Genus Insight belongs to one of five boards: Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian, and Special. Pet collection raises your account-wide foundation; Genus rolls turn that foundation into real endgame stats.

Global warning: older KR/TW guides are not fully reliable for the current Global client. Pet Insight caps, Genus slot pools, and some stat recommendations differ enough that copying an older Double Chance setup can waste resources.

Best Pet Progression at a Glance

1. Unlock Before You Max A new Pet costs only 5 Souls and already contributes a large chunk of its total Genus progression. Wide collection beats tunneling one difficult Pet early.
2. Cogni First for Raw Power Cogni's Owned Effects are the cleanest early offensive gains for most classes, especially while Critical Hit and core offensive stats still matter.
3. Save Universal Soul Crystals Ordinary boards have more natural progression routes. Universal crystals are far more valuable when reserved for Special and late-board finishing.
4. Do Not Lock Early Level 10 is where the serious rolling begins. Locking mediocre lines at 6-8 makes every future Analyze far more expensive.

Pet Insight - Why Unlocking New Pets Is So Efficient

Every normal Pet follows the same basic progression. You spend Souls to unlock it, then continue feeding Souls to reach Pet Insight 2 and 3. The important detail is that the first 5 Souls are by far the most efficient investment.

Pet Progression Souls Required Genus EXP What You Gain
Unlock / Level 1 5 500 Pet, Mount, first Owned Effect
Level 2 +25 250 Stronger Owned Effect, Mount Glide
Level 3 +75 250 Full Owned Effect, Transform
Total 105 1,000 Maximum Pet Insight in Global
Why this matters: 5 Souls give 500 Genus EXP, while the final 75 Souls only add 250. That makes new Pet unlocks incredibly efficient compared with forcing one low-spawn Pet to Level 3.

Use the Source Tab

5 Souls FirstDense Spawn CampsRifts for Opposite Faction

Open the Pet menu and check Source before deciding what to grind. Start with monsters that have dense, uncontested spawns in your region. If several Pet types share one camp, collect all of them. Leave awkward or heavily contested targets until your easy collection is already developed.

Which Genus Should You Farm First?

The exact Pet species matters less than its Genus. Regular Pets within the same family share the same type of Owned Effect progression, so your early goal is not to hunt the coolest creature - it is to collect the most efficient permanent stats.

 PRIORITY #1

Cogni

Pet Insight 3: HP +30, Critical Hit +2, Might +1. This is the cleanest early offensive collection for most classes and the first family we recommend farming aggressively.

 HIGH VALUE

Fera

Pet Insight 3: Accuracy Bonus +2, Dexterity +1 plus mount utility. Excellent while Accuracy still affects your real hit rate and useful for classes that naturally value Dexterity.

 BALANCED

Natura

Pet Insight 3: Critical Hit Resist +2, Precision +1, Stamina. Less explosive offensively, but still strong account-wide progression and valuable for balanced builds.

 LONG-TERM

Varian

Pet Insight 3: Evasion Bonus +2, Constitution +1 and mount sprint utility. More defensive than Cogni or Fera, but still mandatory if you want to finish the full Genus system.

Our collection order: unlock everything easy first, then prioritize dense Cogni farms, followed by useful Fera and Natura targets. Varian comes naturally during long-term completion rather than being ignored.

How Genus Insight Actually Works

Five Boards, Nine Slots, Ten Levels

CogniFeraNaturaVarianSpecial

Each Genus has its own board. Slots unlock one by one from Levels 1-9, while Level 10 improves the quality of the rolls themselves. Pressing Analyze rerolls every unlocked line that you are not protecting.

Base Analyze Cost 4 Soul Crystals + 1,000 Kina.
Progress per Roll Every rerolled slot also contributes Genus Insight EXP.
Three Presets Keep one safe working preset and use another for aggressive rerolling.
Level 10 Goal This is where the strongest rarity odds make serious locking efficient.
Insight Level Unique Chance Heroic Chance Recommendation
7 1% 0% Keep leveling
8 5% 0% Still avoid locking
9 10% 1% Only keep an exceptional roll
10 15% 5% Start serious endgame rolling
The expensive mistake: locking an average line early. One lock already raises the reroll cost, and protecting several lines turns every future Analyze into a large Soul Crystal sink.

Best Genus Insight Stats - Current Global Meta

Every slot has its own roll pool, so there is no universal "Damage on every line" solution. For a general PvE character, the cleanest priority is Slot 4 first, then Slots 1 and 5, then Slots 3, 6, and 9. Defensive lines come after your main offensive package is established.

Slot Best General Priority Why It Matters
1 & 5 Max Attack > Attack Bonus Universal offensive value for almost every PvE setup.
2 & 8 HP Increase / defensive stats Useful, but lower priority for pure damage min-maxing.
3, 6 & 9 Critical Hit or Accuracy, then Power Shard Damage Bonus Fix your real stat needs first, then move into stronger endgame scaling.
4 Board-specific Damage line The highest-value slot on every Genus board.
7 Damage Tolerance / PvE Damage Tolerance Your main defensive min-max slot.

Slot 4 - The Roll That Defines Each Board

Cogni - Critical Damage Boost The best general Cogni target for DPS. Damage Boost or PvE Damage Boost are acceptable while you are still leveling the board.
Fera - Weapon Damage Boost Excellent for classes whose kit converts weapon scaling efficiently. Again, generic PvE Damage Boost is a perfectly usable temporary line.
Natura - Multi-Hit Chance One of the strongest long-term offensive rolls. Perfect Chance and PvE Damage Boost are reasonable fallbacks.
Varian - Front or Back Attack Damage The best option depends on your class and real positional uptime. Templar naturally favors Front Attack, while Assassin strongly rewards Back Attack. Use PvE Damage Boost if mechanics constantly break your position.
Special - Double Chance The most important general-purpose Special roll. Older regional guides may use different terminology or place similar effects elsewhere; Global players should follow the current Special Slot 4 pool.
Do not overcap Crit or Accuracy just because a guide tells you to roll them. Check the actual character sheet. Once those stats are already comfortable for your content, Power Shard or multiplier-based lines become more attractive.

Soul Crystal Priority - Where Your Resources Should Go

AION 2 Soul Crystals

Save Universal Crystals for Special

Special BoardDouble ChanceLong-Term Value

Cogni, Fera, Natura, and Varian all have more natural progression through ordinary Pet farming and genus-specific resources. The Special board has fewer natural sources, which makes universal Soul Crystals far more valuable there.

Hidden Cubes One of the best places to build a universal Soul Crystal reserve. Use your keys rather than letting them pile up.
Pet Collection Rewards Check collection milestones regularly. A large collection naturally feeds more Genus progression.
Odylium Repository A repeatable source directly tied to Pet progression and Growth Pet rewards.
Duty Missions & Events Pick Pet-related rewards when the competing mission rewards are weak, especially if Special is lagging behind.
Do not burn universal crystals on a Level 5 ordinary board. If Cogni, Fera, Natura, or Varian can still progress through Pet collection and genus-specific resources, let them. Universal crystals are most valuable when they solve a bottleneck that normal farming cannot.

Recommended Progression Route

1
Unlock every easy Pet.
Five Souls is the best-value investment in the whole system. Sweep your Source list before committing to long farms.
2
Farm easy Cogni targets first.
Cogni gives the best early offensive Owned Effect package for most characters.
3
Take abundant Pets to Insight 3.
Finish Pets with good spawn density and leave awkward low-spawn monsters for later.
4
Push all five Genus boards upward.
Do not tunnel one board while the others remain at very low levels. Full account progression matters.
5
Reach Level 10 before heavy locking.
That is where your best rarity odds finally justify the increased reroll cost.
6
Roll Slot 4 first.
Then improve Slots 1/5, followed by 3/6/9. Defensive slots come after your damage package is stable.
7
Finish all five boards.
Maxing the full system is worth it because the final account-wide rewards are far stronger than stopping after one attractive board.
Endgame target: all five Genus boards at Level 10, strong Slot 4 rolls on every board, and at least one safe preset.

Final Thoughts

Pet progression is easy to underestimate because each individual bonus looks small. The real power appears when dozens of Owned Effects are stacked together and all five Genus boards are developed at the same time.

Start wide, collect the easy Pets, build Cogni aggressively, and save universal Soul Crystals for the places where normal farming cannot solve the problem. Once your boards approach Level 10, shift from progression mode into optimization mode and start protecting genuinely valuable rolls.

The system rewards patience far more than gambling early. If you avoid premature locks and keep one safe preset at all times, Pet and Genus Insight becomes one of the most reliable permanent power systems in AION 2.
