AION 2
Last Update: October 7, 2026
Introduction
Level 45 changes the way progression works in AION 2. Experience is finished for the current season, while Item Level starts deciding which endgame activities you can enter. The important numbers come quickly: 1000 opens the Abyss, 1400 opens the second Conquest tier, Transcendence starts at 1600, the next major gear tier begins at 2100, and 2800 is the requirement attached to the first Sanctuary raid.
The quickest route is built around those thresholds. Use the large amount of one-time progression available to a fresh level-45 character, spend Odyle Energy where the next meaningful gear tier drops, and use Arcana at the exact points where Transcendence becomes available. Perfect rolls can wait. During the climb, reaching the next source of gear usually matters more.

What Actually Raises Item Level?
Item Level and Combat Power are related, but they are not interchangeable. Item Level is the gate used by Expeditions and Transcendence. Combat Power takes a broader look at the character and is commonly used by players when forming groups.
Raises Item Level
- Base Item Level of equipped gear
- +1 per normal Enhancement level
- +1 per Daevanion Crystal spent
- Manastone/Soulstone lines: +1 to +4 by grade
- Arcana: 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 by grade, plus card levels
- Equipping missing special-slot items such as Clash Runes
Useful, but Different
- Titles
- Wings
- Pets
- Stigma progression
- Theostones
- Many other Combat Power and build upgrades
That distinction explains why a character can qualify for a dungeon and still look weak to a public group. During the rush to 2800, track both numbers, but use Item Level when deciding which upgrade gets you through the next content gate.
Fresh 45 to 1000: Take the One-Time Item Level First
A fresh 45 often has far more Item Level waiting on the map than in a dungeon. Finish the level-45 story sequence first. The final part provides your Spiritforged Weapon, while the following Draupnir/Forgotten Commander chain eventually leads to the Spiritforged Guard after you gain access to the Abyss.
Next, clear the progression that pays permanent rewards. Your own faction's District Quests and Sealed Dungeons provide Daevanion Crystals and Wisdom Stones. Use the Crystals and actually spend them on the Daevanion boards; every Crystal invested adds one Item Level. Local Strongholds supply the scrolls used for Noble Belt progression, while Empyrean Traces advance the Monolith and provide Revelation Amulet scrolls.
Your own faction's Sealed Dungeons and District Quests are major one-time sources. Crystals sitting unused in the inventory do nothing for Item Level.
District Quest rewards can fill both Rune slots. Each Clash Rune carries 40 Item Level. Taking them to +1 is safe; attempts from +2 onward can destroy the Rune on failure.
Their early +10 upgrades are efficient because these slots progress through grades instead of being discarded with every dungeon tier.
Fill empty Manastone lines on weapons and armour and Soulstone lines on accessories. Save premium rolls for equipment with a longer lifespan.
Enhancement is the final easy lever. Spread inexpensive upgrades across your current gear and take the Weapon further if necessary. Every step through +10 succeeds automatically on eligible gear, while the Kina cost rises sharply later. At this point the aim is simple: get through 1000 without turning temporary equipment into an expensive project.
1000 to 1400: Use the Abyss Unlock Before Spending Heavily
At 1000 Item Level, enter Lower Reshanta and finish the story hand-in at your faction base. This grants the Spiritforged Guard and opens additional District Quests together with the level-45 Ascension step. The Abyss Monolith also provides Azphel Daevanion Crystals, and those points count toward Item Level when spent.
Once those free sources are exhausted, look at the remaining distance to 1400. Epic Belt and Amulet progression, cheap Enhancement, basic stones, and crafted True Dragon Lord accessories at Item Level 62 are all legitimate ways to close it. Draupnir becomes useful when Odyle Energy would otherwise sit capped or when one guaranteed ilvl54 armour piece is enough to save a much more expensive upgrade elsewhere.
Reach 1400 mostly through quests, Daevanion, permanent accessories, cheap upgrades, and crafting. Save most Odyle Energy for the ilvl 70 tier.
If you are close to the gate or Energy is about to cap, use Draupnir Exploration/Conquest for an ilvl 54 upgrade. Losing natural Energy regeneration is not efficient either.
1400 to 1600: Farm the First Gear Tier That Matters
At 1400, the route becomes much cleaner. Vakron Sky Island provides Item Level 70 armour and Guard progression. Urugugu Canyon supplies Item Level 70 weapons and accessories. These pieces are large enough upgrades to carry a substantial part of the climb toward 2100.
Begin with Vakron Sky Island Exploration. Three reward claims fill its one-time guaranteed reward and let you select a Vakron armour piece. Leave that choice unclaimed until you have seen a few natural drops if possible; using the selection on the slot that refuses to appear prevents duplication.
| Dungeon | Main item level 70 Rewards | Guaranteed Progress |
|---|---|---|
| Vakron Sky Island | Armour + Guard path | Exploration: armour pick after 3 claims; Conquest: selection/voucher at 21 claims |
| Urugugu Canyon | Weapon + Necklace, Earrings, Rings | Conquest: accessory selection or voucher at 21 claims |
Spend Odyle where it fixes the most weak slots. A character missing four armour pieces gets more value from Vakron than one already wearing most of the set. Urugugu becomes more attractive when your Weapon or several accessories are still far behind.
1600 to 2100: Do Not Overfarm the First Transcendence Tier
Transcendence Tier 1 opens at 1600. Run both Deus Research Base and Shattered Arkanis until all five Arcana slots are filled. That initial set is the important gain. Current Global players are already running into the same trap: they keep spending Odyle at Tier 1 hoping for better cards, then discover that the missing ilvl 70 equipment would have moved them toward 1900 much faster.
Tier 1 can drop up to Rare cards in the Compass, Bell, Parchment, and Mirror slots, while the Chalice is capped at Common there. Once every slot has a card, return to Vakron and Urugugu unless the next Transcendence claim has a very clear purpose.
Fill all five Arcana slots. Common cards add 20 Item Level and Rare cards add 40.
Non-Chalice slots can reach Epic; the Chalice can reach Rare.
Ferocious Horn Den and Fire Temple open with ilvl 86 equipment.
Unique Arcana becomes available in the four non-Chalice slots.
At 1900, take another pass through Transcendence Tier 2 and replace obvious Arcana weaknesses. An Epic card contributes 60 Item Level, so the upgrades can be substantial. After that, return to the rest of your character: finish the missing ilvl 70 pieces, improve your Bracelet/Belt/Amulet, spend newly earned Daevanion Crystals, and use Enhancement where the cost still makes sense.
Arcana priority during this stretch: fill five slots first, upgrade obvious low-grade cards second, then put your Odyle back into the gear you still need to reach the next threshold.
2100 to 2200: Replace Your Gear With Item Level 86 Pieces
At 2100, move into Ferocious Horn Den and Fire Temple. Horn Den is the armour and Guard dungeon; Fire Temple handles weapons and accessories. Both produce Item Level 86 Unique gear, making this the final normal Conquest gear tier before the 2800 raid threshold.
Ferocious Horn Den
- ilvl 86 Nuakum armour
- Nuakum Guard progression
- Exploration armour choice after 3 claims
- Conquest selection/voucher after 28 claims
Fire Temple
- ilvl 86 Enraged Kromede weapon
- ilvl 86 Necklace, Earrings, and Rings
- Conquest accessory selection/voucher after 28 claims
- Important source for late-game weapon progression
Again, hold guaranteed selections until they solve an actual missing slot. By this point equipment also deserves closer inspection before replacement. A small Item Level gain can come with a large loss of useful combat stats, and Unique gear has access to Transfer for eligible progression. Keep the rush moving, but do not throw away a strong long-term piece automatically.
2200 to 2500: Arcana Becomes the Main Shortcut Again
Transcendence Tier 3 opens at 2200. This tier can drop Unique Compass, Bell, Parchment, and Mirror cards, while the Chalice can reach Epic. Since a Unique Arcana contributes 80 Item Level before card Enhancement, replacing several old cards can move the character much faster than another round of expensive armour upgrades.
Use Tier 3 until the large Arcana upgrades stop arriving, then continue filling ilvl 86 gear and permanent progression. Do not insist on a perfect Arcana set before moving forward. The card's grade and Item Level are extremely valuable during the climb; set bonuses and ideal skill lines become a larger concern once the next gate is secured.

Common: 20
Rare: 40
Epic: 60
Unique: 80
Each Arcana level also adds 1 Item Level. Higher-grade cards accept more Enhancement levels.
2500 to 2800: Finish the Gaps, Do Not Follow One Fixed Shopping List
At 2500, Transcendence Tier 4 opens and the Unique Chalice finally enters the loot table. Upgrade Arcana first when the new tier offers a clear grade increase. From there, the last stretch depends heavily on what actually dropped for your character.
A player with nearly complete ilvl 86 dungeon gear may need more Enhancement, Daevanion, better Manastone/Soulstone lines, and a few crafted pieces. Someone with strong crafted accessories can spend the same resources on the Weapon or missing armour. There is no reason to pretend those two inventories should follow an identical sequence.
| Upgrade | When It Is Strong |
|---|---|
| Tier 4 Arcana | Whenever it replaces a lower-grade card, especially the Chalice. |
| Missing ilvl 86 dungeon gear | When an older ilvl 70 or quest piece is still occupying the slot. |
| Daevanion + stones | Whenever points or sockets are still unused. They are straightforward Item Level that many rushed characters leave behind. |
| +10 to +15 Enhancement | Best on gear you expect to keep. The cost rises dramatically past +10. |
| Dragon Lord crafting | Excellent for selected Weapon/accessory slots and for pushing beyond ordinary ilvl 86 dungeon gear. Useful, but not mandatory in every slot. |
The crafted Dragon Lord ladder reaches Item Level 94 and eventually 102 in its later versions. Accessories are particularly appealing because Handicrafting covers the Necklace, two Earrings, and two Rings. The Weapon is another natural candidate. Crafting every armour slot simply because it exists is rarely the fastest answer when Horn Den can already supply strong ilvl 86 armour.
Deep Enhancement deserves the same restraint. An Item Level 86 Unique piece costs roughly 11.9 million Kina on average to move from +10 to +15. That can be worthwhile on a weapon or another long-term slot. Spending it on something you already plan to replace is much harder to defend.
Odyle Energy: Spend It Around Your Current Gate
Odyle Energy is shared by the reward claims that matter most to this route, so careless spending can delay the next threshold even when your character is strong enough to clear the content. Natural Energy regenerates over time; once your pool is full, further regeneration is wasted.

Before 1400
Save most of it for the item level 70 tier. Spend enough to prevent capping or to take a guaranteed Draupnir reward that immediately helps you reach 1400.
After 1400
Use the newest useful Conquest tier, interrupt it briefly when Transcendence opens for major Arcana upgrades, then return to the missing gear.
Substance Morph also offers a useful refill: 25 Odyle + 5 Fine Odyle + 1 Pure Odyle + 50,000 Kina can be converted into 40 Odyle Energy. When one more claim advances a guaranteed reward or targets a large missing upgrade, that conversion can save time.
Daily and Weekly Progression Worth Keeping Up With
The fastest route also depends on avoiding capped or expiring progression. You do not need to clear every icon every day, but the following activities contribute enough that ignoring them for an entire week can slow the character noticeably.
2 Nightmare: use attempts before the stored counter caps; its shop contributes Daevanion and Stigma progression.
3 Ascension Trial: you have three weekly entries. Running them later in the week can be beneficial because your character is stronger.
4 Exploration rewards: use the guaranteed selections attached to the new dungeon tiers before the weekly cycle is wasted.
5 Odyle Energy: keep enough room for natural regeneration and spend claims toward your current threshold.
Common Progression Mistakes
Tier 2 immediately offers ilvl 70 gear. Burning the entire pool on lower-tier Conquest can make the first 1400–1600 stretch much slower.
Fill the five Arcana slots, then return to ilvl 70 gear. Better Transcendence rewards become available at 1900.
Each spent Crystal adds Item Level. Large piles sitting in the Cube are one of the easiest progression losses to fix.
Cheap socket lines help Item Level. Save expensive rolls for pieces that will survive several progression steps.
The price rises sharply after +10. Spread cheaper upgrades first and reserve deep Enhancement for equipment with a long lifespan.
Global Conquest and Transcendence gates are different. Always compare an older guide with the entry requirement shown in the Global client.
Fresh 45 to 2800 Checklist
2 Clear your own District Quests, Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, and Monolith progression; spend the Daevanion Crystals.
3 Equip two Clash Runes, progress Belt/Amulet, fill socket lines cheaply, and use efficient Enhancement to reach 1000.
4 Enter the Abyss, claim the Spiritforged Guard, finish the newly opened quests/Ascension, and spend Azphel Daevanion points.
5 Reach 1400 with permanent progression, crafted accessories, cheap upgrades, and only as much lower-tier Odyle spending as necessary.
6 Claim Vakron Exploration three times, then farm Vakron/Urugugu ilvl 70 gear toward 1600.
7 At 1600, fill all five Arcana slots in Transcendence Tier 1, then return to ilvl 70 gear.
8 At 1900, take Tier 2 Arcana upgrades and finish the push to 2100.
9 Farm Ferocious Horn Den and Fire Temple ilvl 86 gear. At 2200, use Tier 3 Transcendence for major Arcana upgrades.
10 At 2500, run Tier 4 for the final Arcana tier and close the remaining gap with ilvl 86 gear, Daevanion, stones, Enhancement, and selected crafted upgrades until 2800.
Final Thoughts
The quickest route from a fresh 45 to 2800 is easier to manage once every threshold has a purpose. One-time map progression gets the character through the early climb. ilvl 70 gear takes over at 1400. Transcendence provides short bursts of Item Level at 1600 and 1900, then ilvl 86 gear arrives at 2100. Higher Arcana tiers and more expensive long-term upgrades finish the route.
Most slowdowns come from spending a limited resource on the wrong layer. A player can overfarm early Conquest, chase better Tier 1 Arcana for too long, or sink millions into a piece that is one dungeon away from replacement. Check the next entry gate, identify the weakest part of the character, and spend toward the upgrade that gets you there with the least waste.
